American Association of University Women Mountain Lakes, NJ Area Branch

• has 131 members and GROWING—Graduates with an associate or equivalent degree, baccalaureate or higher degree, or an international equivalent. Geographic area includes, but but is not limited to, Mountain Lakes, Denville, Boonton, Boonton Township, Montville, Parsippany and Rockaway.   AAUW Members-at-Large are invited to drop by a meeting to become acquainted with our Branch activities. (Membership for further information)
  NOTICE: Current Branch members must renew by JUNE 30 to have no interruption in local, state, or Association services.
  
• holds monthly Programs—alternating day and evening—with outstanding speakers and learning trips. (See Programs)
• provides Scholarships for local college women. In 2008, $7,500 was divided among three local recipients. Click link above read about the recipients and learn more about scholarships.

  —5th Annual Book/Media Sale, netted approx. $1,500. A big shout of Thanks to all who assisted with the work involved.
  —2008 Annual Club Member solicitation—totaled over $6,000. Thank you to the many, many members who donated this year!
• sponsors lively Enrichment Groups matched to members' interests. Want to start a new group? New member Ann Greek has suggested a Daytime Book Group. Contact her if you are interested. (See Enrichment Groups)
• Community activities include participation in and support for the Fall UN Weekend and "Telling Tales" for young people. Congratulations to Laurel Durenburger, Bonnie Cytron, and Peg Collins on receiving $500 grant from Mountain Lakes Women's Club to expand "Telling Tales."
  
• dialogue on State and National AAUW public policy issues. Look for the cooperative voter registration initiative Fall 2008. Mark Jan. 24, 2009 on your calendar: AAUW-NJ's "Pay Equity Gap—Negotiating" seminar. (See Public Policy).
  
• arranges sparkling Social gatherings. Gather for the Fall Open House at Julia Peterson's, Friday afternoon, September 26.
• publishes The Chrysalis, a monthly newsletter e-mailed as an Acrobat pdf or mailed to members. If you prefer to receive a hardcopy of the newsletter by mail, notify Kathy Pizar.
  
• Member Honors
  —$500 was given to the national Educational Foundation 2008 Eleanor Roosevelt Named Grant Honoree: Dianne Bedford Marsden, in memoriam
